Until the last few years, “utility” wasn’t something most people in North America associated with a bicycle. The utility was used to describe an SUV or a pickup truck. That perception is quickly changing. Thanks to the genius of electric assist, riders around the world are discovering the true capabilities of eBikes.
But what does utility mean exactly? The dictionary defines utility as “useful, especially through being able to perform several functions.” At DŌST Bikes utility looks like this:
Sport – A nimble-handling bike with sexy lines and lots of power under the hood. It’s fun whether you’ve got a destination in mind or you just want to feel the wind in your hair.
Cargo Carrier – A bike that’s designed to carry all your stuff, whether that’s in panniers, a trunk bag, a kids’ seat or even a tow-behind trailer. This is where a powerful mid-drive motor with tons of torque is a must-have.
Trekking – Trekking means adventure. Sure carrying all your outdoor gear is a big part of it, but there’s more. You’ve got the wheels, tires and suspension you need go off-road, the power to climb any hill that stands in your way and the battery range to get you places you’ve never been. And when the weather takes a turn for the worse you’ll be happy for the fenders and lights.
Combining all these features in a bike can’t be an afterthought, something that’s bolted on. The utility has to be present from the very conception of bike design like it is at DŌST. It’s what engineers describe as an “elegant solution”: every component has multiple functions, nothing is extra and nothing is omitted.
Integrated Rear Rack (100 lb capacity) – The rear rack is welded on to reduce frame flex and designed to carry twice the weight of bolt-on racks. It’s universal so it fits most aftermarket accessories including panniers (including DŌST panniers), kid seats, surf racks and more
Total Payload Capacity (300 lb) – Whether you’re carrying gear, a trailer or you’re a plus-size rider, our bikes are designed to handle a payload, from the frame to the fit to the high-torque mid-drive motor.
Wide High-Volume Tires – The Schwalbe Super Moto X (27.5” x 2.4”) is a wide, high volume tire for extra stability and cushioning on and off-road. Kevlar reinforcement greatly reduces the chance of a flat while the reflective sidewall adds safety at night.
Full-Coverage Fenders – Unless you live in the Mojave Desert, rain and snow are part of life. Full-coverage fenders keep you clean and dry so you can ride 365 days a year.
Integrated Front/Rear Lights – Integrated Spanninga LED lights run off your bike’s battery so you never have to worry about charging them or forgetting them at home. At the front is the Axendo 80, Spanninga’s most powerful headlight.
