DŌST Sustain Primer #3: B-Corp Certification
If you’ve followed us throughout our journey, you’ll know that at DŌST, our mission is simple: to grow biking across North America! Biking is not only good for people and our communities, but it’s also vital to help sustain our planet.
Sure, it’s a big vision, but we’ve got a plan. We call it DŌST Sustain, and it acts as our guide in everything we do, from the bikes we build, to the company we are, to the movements we support.
Today, I’d like to discuss an important framework for DŌST Sustain: B-Corp Certification.
To achieve our ambitious targets of being a truly sustainability company, our team (led by our Co-Sustainability Directors, Cory and Dave) is in the process of becoming a Certified B-Corp (AKA Benefit Corporation).
What does this mean and why is this so important to us you ask?
B Corp Certification is a designation that globally recognizes businesses for meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on everything from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and material use. In other words, it ensures DŌST achieves and continually maintains high standards in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices throughout our journey.
In a lot of ways, it keeps me and our entire team accountable and provides a tangible framework for us to shape our company in the right way. More importantly, it highlights the importance of not just talking the talk but walking the walk.
Becoming a B-Corp is a long, long process that will last well into 2023. To keep you up to date on our progress be sure to keep tabs on our Sustain Explained video series.
